Letter to Santa

There’s a chill in the air and the nights are getting darker earlier.  It’s envitable, winter is approaching and with winter comes that one holiday that can drive us insane with stress, delight, tantrums, and joy.

Christmas.

It’s already started.  Christmas lights, decorations, circling toys in the toy catalogue books, and of course Santa pictures started this weekend in the mall.

The children are the perfect age to start writing to Santa, so I thought this year would the perfect time to start a new tradition.   It’s one of those things I have always wanted to do but haven’t gotten around to writing a letter in time.  The best time to send a letter is right now,  so that way Santa will be able to write back.  That’s right, he will write back to the kids.

You might not be aware but Canada Post has been helping Santa respond to letters from children around the world for 30 years.  11,000 current and retired employee volunteers read and respond to over a million letters each year, in 29 languages, including Braille.  Each child receives a letter in the mail from Santa, personalized with their name and often handwritten note.  This year is the 30th Anniversary of Canada Post’s Santa Letter Writing program, so I decided why not start a new wonderful tradition with our family this year.

If your little ones would like to write to Santa, here are some tips to make sure your little ones letter gets a response.

  • Address your letter to:     Santa Claus, North Pole, HOH OHO, Canada
  • You MUST include the child’s return address in order to get a response
  • Write early to enable Santa’s elves to provide a response before Christmas

Did you ever write Santa when you were little?  Did Santa write back?  I guarantee that he didn’t write back to me or I would have definitely remembered!

  1. Yes make sure you give then enought time to reply. One year we had a note on our letter, to write earlier next time…..I dont think Santa was too happy we were late on the mailing of our letter. My then 6 year old was a bit shocked, we both read it in the context that he was NOT happy.

I can’t believe they gave you attitude. So much for volunteers. I thought they were supposed to be doing that out of the goodness of their heart!
