Our own little Rockefeller

December is here and we kicked off the month with Surrey’s 5th annual Tree Lighting ceremony in our own little Rockefeller Centre, Holland Park.

It was raining when we arrived but that just meant that there was plenty of parking.

We were greeted with hot chocolate by the North Surrey Lions club.

The lil’ monkees got their face’s painted.

Watched the chainsaw ice sculpture take place.

Donated to the Surrey Food Bank twice that day.

Once at Extra Foods for the Loblaws drive and then at the tree lighting.  We were gifted with a cozy City of Surrey windshield mitt scraper, City of Surrey mittens, Right to Play glowing balls, tickets for an upcoming Surrey Eagles game, and the honour of the Surrey Eagles Mascot, Winger presenting it to us.

This was Easty’s first foray into mascots and other people in large costumes.  By the end of the night she was high-fiving them all, who knew.  They had the lighted Christmas tree, Frosty the Snowman, Winger, Fire Dancers, and other artistic performers like this Snow Queen.

She corrected me when I called her a Snow Princess.  Trust me lady, if you are a princess you will win more favour than a Queen in Easty’s world. Heh.

Beside making popsicle stick sparkle snowflakes, my most favourite was that the kids had their caricatures drawn.

Jackson as Spiderman.

Easton as a Ballerina.

I guess the most impressive event was when our own Mayor Bloomberg Watts invited all the children up to turn the tree on.  It was such a great family event and we were very glad the rain subsided.

Happy December! Only 25 days until Christmas.
